To like 3D fractals is more to like shapes than 'traditional' texture 2D fractals, I know these are very different things. I just love to wander in both worlds

I think the main issue for me is that a lot of 3d fractals seem to be relying on novelty alone to provide interest. As if the artist thinks "It automatically looks cool because it's 3d" and doesn't bother to pay attention to composition and color and all that. It leads to a lot of them looking all the same, IMHO.

This does apply to some 2d fractals as well, it's just more prevalent in 3d ones right now, because they are new.
